Utilities and Selecting upgrades
Disk Clean up
By using disk clean-up
to remove cache memory and temporary files from the computer I am clearing out
any unwanted memory from the hard drive/RAM which allows the CPU to retrieve
instructions faster and to save more memory.
Defragging the
system compiles all the scattered files that have been broken down into small
fragments and puts them back into one whole file. Making it faster for the
processor to find the saved file. This reduces time and saves the CPU from
searching through random clusters of memory to locate the file, also creating
more empty file space for future files.

Selecting Upgrades
Hardware Issues
& Upgrades
Although the
computer system seems to be running stable and there is no hardware failure or
fault components. There could be rooms for improvement, such as upgrading the
hard drive/RAM for a faster overall performance as the memory storage can wear
down slowly after time and by looking from eye the computer system may support
a hard drive that is longer than a few years old.
If the technician support can budget for an updated hard drive or extra
RAM, then it will certainly speed up the performance of the computer (speed,
opening files, loading programs etc.) along with this upgrade there could be
room for an upgraded CPU although not necessary. With an upgraded CPU (and the
features of dual core) the computer system will perform up to 50% faster. Looking
at the computer system in A2.09 I noticed it completes tasks at an average
speed, with these upgraded components the system will benefit boosting the
completion speed and workload of computing tasks while also reducing time, but
as the computer system is mostly used for completing student work and researching
online. There aren’t any mandatory upgrades that are needed with the hardware
although like stated above the hard drive could be upgraded or backed up to
avoid any data loss issues in advance.
Software Issues
& Upgrades
There is no
anti-virus software installed on the computer system. It is important to
install an anti-virus to the computer system to offer an overall protection and
peace of mind that the data on the computer system can’t be attacked. I
recommend upgrading to AVG anti-virus for a free protection then when the technician support can afford to budget a cost effective anti-virus such as commercially rated
Norton Anti-virus for a more improved system protection. Also investing in an
Anti-virus suite you will receive extra protection features such as firewall
defenders, tune-ups, back-ups, and for home users, parental controls.
Other
recommendations for software upgrades will improve the computer systems in
A2.09 would be test utilities software, tuning and health checking programs, by
upgrading with protection software’s you are offering up to 100% more
protection than what the system currently supports after assessing the state of
the system above.
